Gan Jiang (干姜) is a warming interior herb in TCM. It has a pungent taste and a hot nature. Its principal functions include warming the Middle Jiao and expelling cold, restoring Yang and rescuing devastated Yang, warming the Lungs to transform phlegm, and warming the channels to stop bleeding in deficiency cold conditions.

In practice, Gan Jiang is applied to conditions such as abdominal cold pain, vomiting or diarrhea due to cold in the Spleen/Stomach, cold in the lungs leading to thin watery phlegm or cough, collapse of Yang with cold limbs, and bleeding due to deficiency cold (e.g. pale bleeding with weakness).
